Aztec Churchill by CarlPearce Aztec Churchill by CarlPearce
So. The task this week over at :iconferalgargantua: was to do a historic personality out of their own time / situation. It was called 'Medieval Lincoln'.

First thing I though of, god knows why, is Aztec Churchill. So here we have him. Good old Sir Winston as a bloody Aztec Warrior.

One of the oddest damned things I've drawn in years.

Fountain pen on cotton press paper, coloured in PS7.

This oozes quality. From the spot-on caricature to authentic looking Aztec costume. The costume looks like it was well-researched, but knowing you as I do I would imagine it to be an original design approximating what would have been worn. The hybrid headgear is definately a Pearcean touch, as I imagine are the skull wristbands. The nasty looking serrated machetes covered in viscous gloopy blood suggest violence and human sacrifice, but your signature style makes it look like good clean fun. As always your work just reeks of coolness, and I name this my favourite since your Toxie piece.

Also i am intensely jealous of your colouring skillz.

Probably. I love pushing the taste barrier. But I'm a children's book illustrator so I've got to watch myself. Have to keep a somewhat clean image.

I love this, I must say. The idea is pretty hilarious, Particularly the fact that this was the first thing you thought of, hahaha. and I absolutely adore the way you ink with such bold lines. Every time I see your work I think "Dang, this guy's good." I especially like the lighting in this piece. And, you know, the blood.

Thanks. Inking isn't my speciality though. I'm more a pencil pusher. The reason my lines are thick is because I draw everything really small. This image is around 3 inches by about 7 or 8 originally.

Wow, that IS small. But then, I tend to draw things pretty big.

Tried that. Hard to fit it onto the scanner to send off though.

In high school I used to paint everything huge in acrylic and water colour inks, paints and gouache on MDF boards with 3D sections and different layers and levels. And then Photoshop came about. I haven't done anything like that in about 12 years.

Ah, that makes sense. It would be bad if you had to send them a picture that was cut off.

Woah. That sounds pretty amazing, though. It would be very interesting to see, I think. I've only ever painted on a canvas. :I

I haven't seen them in years myself. I never had any room for them so I left them at the school. I think they are currently decorating the Library and corridors of Holywell High School, but I haven't been there in so many years.

It's always nice to paint on something new. I like just grabbing waste stuff and throwing something on it's surface, be it wood, cardboard, plastic sheets, skateboards, house bricks, glass cupboard doors or bare walls. So much fun to be had.
