Secret On The Moon page 23 by CarlPearce
Secret On The Moon page 23
Another page from Secret On The Moon. I liked the sketchy drawing I did of the lab. So I didn't 'ink' it and just left it rough.

I wanted a completely different colour scheme for this section of the book in the lab. I wanted it to stand out from the sunny summer mornings of the present day and the blues of space. So I thought of submarine, single colour  lighting and thought the scientist character may have a load of experiments going on that would completely tint the room. I opted for bold pink to be a nice balance to the inter-cut space scenes.

Also, the young scientist ended up looking a bit like Matt Smith's doctor on this page. Which I didn't notice until I was colouring it.

Can anyone tell what scene in which movie this is an exact reference to? Find out by checking out my twitter page here- twitter.com/CarlPearce666

Could anyone help with a bit of tech advise?

I really need to buy a drawing tablet that I can draw directly onto the screen for work and with a baby on the way, there's no way I could justify shelling out over £1000 for one.

I'm currently eying up the Huion GT 220 and the Wacom Cintiq 13HD, which both come in at around £550.

If anyone has used both, which do you honestly think would be the better purchase out of the two?

Cheers!

Thanks. I've got loads of ethnicly diverse character in my folio. I illustrated a few titles for Tamarind books over the past 10 years.

I noticed!  It's good to see.  Part of the objective of our group is to bring overlooked ethnicity (specifically Afrocentric ethnicity) into the mainstream a little more.  I applaud your effort!

If I'm honest, it's not a conscious effort. It's just how it comes out.

I come from a very rural area in North Wales. There aren't many varying shades of skin colour around here other than the lads who work in the local Indian Restaurant, for no other reason than how remote we are. However, I'm a huge movie fan. Always have been from a very young age. I'm used to a world of different races through the movies, but being from a smaller area, there has never been any issues over race bias, like there is in cities. I've never seen the point of issues due to how people look or where they're from. If anything I find it more interesting meeting someone who isn't like me.

So I naturally add different races to my stories as a reflection on how I see the world. Publishers saw that and took me on for that reason. I just present the world around me. Well. The movie world around me. If it was the actual world around me it'd be mountains, lakes and rough seas with more sheep than people, ha ha.
